Safe Disposal Information

It's not uncommon to have unused or expired medications in your household medicine cabinet. However, it's important to take precautions to avoid unauthorized transfer or to simply throw these medications out with the trash or flush them. Be sure to read the labels on all medications you need to dispose of to ensure you follow proper disposal instructions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has information on safe use, storage and disposal of prescription medications.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety offers disposal drop boxes for safe disposal of prescription medications. These are at various locations across the state.

Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

The Drug Enforcement Administration hosts a take-back event, Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible mean of disposing prescription drugs while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse. The next Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is October 27, 2018. Learn more and find collection sites near you.
