Business Challenge

With the trend in rising healthcare costs, the group began to see a need for health and wellness promotion and education for employees. With many Executives already demonstrating their own personal commitment to health and wellness, management began to research worksite wellness which led the group to partner with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi in becoming a Healthy Workplace in December of 2010

The Solution

The group signed a Letter of Understanding with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi to become a Healthy Workplace and offered a Health Risk Assessment (HRA) to employees. They also conducted health screenings to capture height, weight, blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and glucose. Once data was compiled, the group was able to see the top health needs and interests of the employees. Employee wellness activities were designed based on the results and then promoted throughout the business. Beginning with year two, the group repeated the HRA and health screenings and implemented an incentive-based initiative, along with participation in worksite activities and encouraged employees to take advantage of their Healthy You! benefit.

The Results

With the introduction of their worksite wellness opportunities and incentive, the group has seen an increase in overall Healthy You! utilization and HRA participation and engagement. In 2013, they experienced a 69 percent Healthy You! utilization rate and a 74 percent HRA participation percentage. Other successes are seen in biometric data.
