In January, as part of the HITECH Act, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi will implement enhanced edits for additional HIPAA security for all provider call center inquiries through our voice response unit.
As a result, you will be required to enter your valid 10 digit billing or performing National Provider Identifier (NPI) number to access information through the voice response unit. If an invalid NPI number is entered, you will not be able to proceed with your inquiry. To verify claim status, you must enter the same NPI number that was submitted on the claim.
You will no longer be able to enter your Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Provider Number or your Federal Tax Identification number to access the voice response unit. As such, please make sure you have your valid billing or performing NPI number available so that your call can be routed efficiently and accurately. To ensure a smooth transition for your office, we recommend that you begin complying with this requirement now.
