The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) required healthcare entities to convert from the existing Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 version 4010 transaction standard to the new ASC X12 version 5010 transaction standard by January 1, 2012. This requirement directly impacted the following transactions:
- Electronic Remittance Advices 835
- Electronic Claims 837I / 837P / 837D
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi (BCBSMS) has complied with each deadline for accepting ASC X12 5010 transactions, and we have worked with providers to ensure a smooth transition to the new format. As we previously notified providers, both ASC X12 version 4010 and 5010 transactions would be accepted through June 30, 2012. On July 1, 2012, the ASC X12 4010 837 claim transaction along with the 835 remittance transaction will no longer be accepted by BCBSMS.
If your system has not been converted to the 5010 transaction set to meet CMS compliance, you may download and use the 5010 compatible BCBSMS software to submit your claims. Follow the instructions below to download these products.
