We've all heard the famous quote from Benjamin Franklin, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." And it's true! Preventing disease is much easier than treating it and can mean the difference in your years and quality of life. By building wellness into all aspects of your life, you can be healthy now and in the years to come!
Eating healthy, exercising regularly, avoiding tobacco and seeing your healthcare provider for an annual wellness visit are among the most important things you can do to manage your health. Healthy lifestyle habits are key in preventing and managing disease as are regular visits with your healthcare provider. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi's Healthy You! wellness benefit provides an annual visit with a Mississippi Network Provider at no out-of-pocket cost for age and gender-specific screenings. Learn more about the benefit in the Be Healthy section.
Build healthier communities
Key elements of a healthy community include providing access to physical activity opportunities and healthy food choices. The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation's Healthy Hometown Awards program was established in 2010 and rewards communities around Mississippi that are creating healthier places to live and work. The City of Brookhaven was recently named "Mississippi's Healthiest Hometown," and will receive $50,000 to pursue ongoing programs for its residents. Bring wellness into the workplace
Employers with onsite wellness programs can benefit from increased employee productivity, reduced healthcare costs and more. And according to the U.S. Surgeon General's office, medical costs are reduced by approximately $3.27 for every dollar spent on workplace wellness programs. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi's Healthy Workplace initiative is helping businesses around the state create healthier workplace environments through personalized and targeted programs to help employees be healthier.
