Take Ownership of Your Health - Lead With a Healthy Lifestyle!

Leading a healthy lifestyle can make a big difference in the health of your patients – and their healthcare costs. Help your patients design a "be healthy" prescription that includes eating a healthy, balanced diet, along with regular exercise, a tobacco-free lifestyle and annual visits with their healthcare provider. This can help them stay healthy and keep their healthcare costs under control.

Prescription drugs can be among the most costly aspects of healthcare – but they don’t have to be. Being healthy and leading a healthy lifestyle can help your patients avoid the added costs of taking drugs to treat a health condition. However, it is sometimes necessary to take medication to treat certain conditions.

To help your patients save money on medications, there are many lower-cost generic and over- the-counter alternatives to higher-cost brand name drugs. While there is little or no difference in the medication, there can be a big difference in costs. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is committed to providing you and your patients the information you need to make the most cost-effective medication choices.

We appreciate your partnership in helping assess the most cost-effective prescription for your patients through promoting a healthy lifestyle, helping choose a lower-cost prescription drug or recommending an over-the-counter alternative.

By using our Category 1-4 Drug Search option, you can find the most medically and cost-effective drugs for your patients. Category 1 drugs are the most cost-effective and have the lowest co-pay and Category 4 drugs will have the highest co-pay.

The be RxSmart. it's your choice. sm page is a good place to learn more about these benefits.

Some self-funded plan members have a three-level benefit with generic, preferred brands and non-preferred brands. If your patient's benefits include this, the Preferred Drug Search will show you the most current listing of medications in each category. If your patient's Category 4 prescription drug cost is 20% up to $100, some drugs reside in different categories than drugs on the standard 4-Category design. Click here to see the differences.

Some drugs require prior authorization to determine if they are covered in your patient's benefit design or to ensure appropriate use.

Where appropriate, quantity limits will apply to some medication purchases.

Benefits for covered prescription drugs may be limited to one prescription drug per therapeutic class within a 30-day supply.
